Mountain Lion by Destroyah93 Mountain Lion by Destroyah93
I was walking along a trail when I felt like I was being watched. I turned around and saw this amazing animal. A Mountain Lion. These magnificent creatures kill a few people each year. Yet humans do far more damage to them. we have driven them from most of their range and they are nearly extinct in Florida. In most places where they still roam, they are the apex predator.

The way she looked at you, did you feel like you should be between two slices of bread?  :D

Fortunately there are strong efforts underway to protect these beautiful animals in the wild, hopefully the cougars will made a re-bound.  There have even been reports of cougar sightings here, and they've been gone from our area since the early 1900's.

Nice, nice photo!

I am relieved to see that you commented and added that it was in a zoo. I was going to ask what state you were in. I remember driving through Florida once and seeing one of these killed on the highway. I was amazed, because at the time I had no idea there were any of these animals there. What really struck me was how huge it was! I think I'd have had a heart attack if I had been pulled over on the road and seen one of these peering out from the brush. Gorgeous, but not anything I want to run into in the wild. And now that we have encroached so much on their territory it can only end tragically for both animal and human when a close encounter occurs.

Luckily, the trail was a in a zoo. this could have ended badly if it was in the wild
